In high spirits after winning ‘Best Jazz Album’ at the 1998 Rianz awards The New Loungehead’s Godfrey de Grut and ‘Sax Man’ Chris White recorded a selection of 5 tracks in a jazzy, trip-hop style under the name buckle.

Originally recorded and released on our old Scoop de Loop Label – the cut lips ep also features the formidable skills of Bassist; Chip Matthews and Beat Technician; Graham Cope, with guest appearances from Pianist Alan Brown and drummer Tony Hopkins (RIP).

Much of the material on cut lips is from the repertoire of Slumber Godfrey deGrut’s working band who gigged regularly around Auckland at the time (late 90’s). Slumber enjoyed a rapt following at gigs and live to air BFM concerts

Chris White is currently based in London where he has had a successful career writing Film and Advertising Music  - as well as playing sax for the likes of Van Morrison, amongst many others.

cut lips continued the journey started by the Nathan Haines Shift Left album – it’s ‘sneaky beats and twisted jazz flavours’ blend into a sensuous and seamless sound for the inner city lifestyle.
